Il- Maghluq Natura 2000 site – Marsascala

Il-Magħluq ta’ Marsaskala is one of the two extant wetlands in the south of Malta. It is located right in the centre of Marsaskala, sandwiched between urban and rural settings. The area is rich in biodiversity and is an important spot for avi and aquatic fauna. One may find a sizeable population of the national fish of Malta, the Mediterranean Killifish. Various actions are currently underway for the conservation of the site, including the monitoring of various parameters and the restructing of the habitats that are presently found on site.

This protected site is managed by Nature Trust – FEE Malta under a management agreement with the Environment and Resources Authority.
